Final Destination 5 however is a perfect wrap-up of the series, not only because of its bombshell ending but because of its genuinely good filmmaking. Final Destination 5 is a genuinely good horror movie , that pays real homage to its franchise. Throughout the film, there are these really subtle references to other installments that anyone who knows the series will pick up on. But as a film separate from a franchise, it still definitely stands on its own. The reason fans watch these movies is to see the kills.
They're always very creative, tense, and unexpected. They're also quite scary because though they are outlandish and rare they are also all technically possible.
It's not rare for people to say they're scared of certain everyday things, like tanning beds or rollercoasters, because of what they saw in these films. Final Destination 5 showcases these in a way that's even more tense. Many of the death scenes take you by surprise, even when you know what's coming, and are played out in a way that is truly hard to watch. This film is full of jump scares and cringey moments that are very effective. It's easily the best of the series, which on its own makes it a great way to finish it, but the ending scene is really what ties it all together.
They believe that they've beaten Death, they cheated the system, and have a new lease on life. It's slowly revealed to the audience though, that not everything was what it seemed. As previously stated, the very first Final Destination film begins with a premonition of a violent plane crash. His realization comes a little late as a truck swerves into the building and promptly crushes the three of them to death.
Final Destination 5 ends on arguably the most ironic note of the series, as survivors Sam and his girlfriend Molly board a plane to Paris to start new lives after seemingly escaping Death's design. It turns out the movie is actually a prequel to the rest of the series, as the plane they're boarding is Flight from Final Destination , and they die in the plane crash as Alex predicted.
Out of the entire franchise, it appears Final Destination 2's Kimberly and Burke are the only ones to escape, and even this is debatable. The original plan for Final Destination 3 was for Winstead's Wendy to spot them on the train at the end, leading to all of them being killed, which didn't come to pass. A DVD bonus feature for Final Destination 3 dubbed "Choose Their Fate" features an alternate ending revealing Burke and Kim perished together in a freak wood chipper accident, though the canon of this is highly debatable.
A part-time hobby soon blossomed into a career when he discovered he really loved writing about movies, TV and video games — he even arguably had a little bit of talent for it. After all, this would explain the clue of the McKinley Grad Night shirt, as it would hint to both Ian and the cherry picker. Though the derailment likely occurred as shown, it's possible that the three were able to mitigate its effects and avoid their deaths altogether. Additionally, Janet's death in the premonition would've broken Death's rules, as it occurred out of order, though this could be explained if she survived long enough after being impaled for Lori and Nick to die first.
However, the only way the death order in the end could be explained is if Nick saved himself and Lori from an unknown death, allowing the list to cycle back and restart with Janet. Categories Death Characters Add category. Cancel Save.
